EFB ADS-B Silicon Radio

Stratux open-source project have released the pingEFB ADS-B Silicon Radio.
pingEFB is the first purpose-built ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast) receiver to be compatible with the innovative Stratux project, a full featured, homebuilt ADS-B platform. Easy to assemble from off-the-shelf hardware, and compatible with a wide variety of Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications, Stratux has a passionate community of users and developers.
pingEFB provides compelling benefits over existing Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions, including:
  • Dual-link ADS-B In on both 978 MHz (UAT) and 1090 MHz, requiring only a single USB port on the Raspberry Pi
  • Considerable power savings, dramatically extending battery life and decreasing cooling requirements
  • Built-in antenna offers new mounting options
  • Sacrificing no capability, it meets or exceeds all receive performance requirements specified by the ADS-B standards (DO-282B and DO-260B)
  • By offloading processing to the uAvionix exclusive Ping silicon, it considerably reduces demands on the host CPU.
The Ping line of ADS-B receivers and transceivers is based on the groundbreaking Ping ADS-B Silicon Radio. Powering products weighing as little as 1.5g, it extends the reach of ADS-B technology to exciting new form factors and applications. These products include a line of devices aimed at the growing unmanned systems market. The uAvionix product evolution continues, now with portable devices for General Aviation, and soon systems for uncertified and certified manned aircraft.
“We’re thrilled to provide the enthusiast community with a high quality, affordable option for their Stratux builds,” said Ryan Braun, COO of uAvionix. “As pilots and longtime fans of the Stratux project, we felt that the unmatched capabilities of the platform demanded a no compromise ADS-B receiver. We’ve been able to leverage our Ping single chip ADS-B Silicon Radio to do just that.”
